About The DurhamGate Care Home
The DurhamGate Care Home stands in Spennymoor, County Durham, and we are a residential home for older people and for younger adults whose needs are best met in a small, settled place where the same faces greet them every morning. A good deal of our work is with people living with dementia. We have learned that the useful things are rarely dramatic. Knowing that someone takes their tea strong, that another person wants the curtains open before anything else happens, that a particular song settles a difficult afternoon, is what makes a day go well. We write those things down, we pass them on between shifts, and we keep asking families to tell us more, because they know the person far longer than we have. We also support people with physical disabilities and people living with a visual or hearing impairment, adapting the way we communicate and the way the building works around them rather than expecting the reverse. Respite stays are available for those who need a short period of care, whether that follows a hospital admission or simply gives a family carer a planned rest. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Anyone considering a move here is welcome to visit, look around properly and ask us anything.
