About Kensington Hall
Kensington Hall in South Hetton is a residential care home for older people who need help with daily living, and we also support adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. Respite stays are part of what we do. We want the house to feel like a home rather than a unit, so people bring their own furniture and photographs, keep their own hours, choose where and with whom they spend the day, and are helped with washing and dressing at their own pace and as privately as we can manage. Meals are cooked here, with real choice at each one, and the kitchen will usually make something particular if somebody fancies it. Because we support people with quite different needs, we build around individuals rather than running one routine. Before anybody moves in we spend time learning how they like their days to go, what they manage themselves and where help is actually wanted, and that is what we work to afterwards. We keep an eye on health without turning the place into a clinic. If somebody seems unwell we act early, involve the surgery and the district nurses, and tell families what is happening rather than waiting to be asked. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated the home good overall. Anyone thinking about a move is welcome to visit and talk to the people who live here.
