About Abbeyvale Care Centre
Abbeyvale Care Centre is a care home in Hartlepool. We provide residential care for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions and people with physical disabilities. Respite stays are available. Because the people living here have genuinely different needs, we plan care one person at a time. What settles somebody with dementia is not what helps somebody living with a long standing mental health condition, and one routine stretched across everybody suits nobody in particular. So we spend our attention on the details: how a person likes to be addressed, what they can still do and would rather do themselves, what tends to make a bad day and what heads it off early. Dementia care rests on patience and a recognisable day. We avoid springing things on people, we keep routines familiar, and when somebody is distressed we go looking for the cause rather than trying to smooth it over. Relatives often know precisely what helps and we want to be told at the beginning. People here decide when they get up, what they eat and how they spend the day. Visitors are welcome whenever suits them, and we would far rather a concern reached us early and bluntly than be stored up for months. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall, and we keep asking residents and families what needs our attention.
