About Whetstone Hey Residential Home
Whetstone Hey Residential Home is a care home in Ellesmere Port. Most of the people who live here are older adults who reached a point where staying at home had become unsafe or lonely, and a large part of our work is with people living with dementia. We support younger adults as well, and we take respite bookings for planned breaks, recovery after illness, or a trial stay for someone still deciding. We try to run this as a home rather than a facility. Help with washing, dressing and medication is given quietly and at each person's own pace. Meals are cooked here and nobody is hurried through them. People choose where to spend the day, in company or on their own, and the routines they have kept for decades are respected rather than reorganised for our convenience. Dementia care depends on knowing the person. We ask families to tell us about the work someone did, the places they lived, the music they still respond to and the things that have always unsettled them, because that knowledge is worth more on a difficult afternoon than any policy. Staff are asked to slow down and follow the person rather than steer them. Relatives are welcome whenever suits them, and we would much rather hear a worry the day it arises. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Come and see us on an ordinary weekday, meet whoever is on duty and ask us anything at all.
