About Ferndale Residential Home
We are Ferndale Residential Home in Flitwick, Central Bedfordshire. We provide a home for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia and people with a physical disability, and we also offer respite stays. As a residential home we support people with the everyday things that have become difficult: washing and dressing, meals, medication, moving about safely, and the ordinary company that makes a day worth having. Where health needs go beyond what we are registered to provide, we work alongside district nurses and GPs, and we are straightforward with families about where that boundary lies. For residents living with dementia, we try to build the day around the person. That usually means finding out who they have been rather than concentrating on what they can no longer do, and then using that knowledge to make sense of how they are feeling. Distress nearly always has a cause, and it is more often a practical one than people expect. Respite stays matter here. They give a family carer a genuine break and they give someone recovering from illness a period of proper support before going home. Guests get the same assessment and the same welcome as anyone living here. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
