About Blakelands Lodge

Blakelands Lodge is a residential care home in Central Bedfordshire, near Bedford. We are home to older people who need support with everyday life, including residents living with dementia and residents with visual or hearing impairment, and we offer respite stays for shorter periods. We try to run this as a house where people live rather than a place where care is administered. Residents tell us when they prefer to get up, what they like to eat, how much help they want with washing and dressing and how they want to spend the day, and the day is built from those answers rather than from a rota that suits us. Support with personal care, meals, medication and appointments is given quietly and with proper regard for privacy. Dementia care runs through a great deal of what we do. Knowing a person's history, the people and places that matter to them and the rhythms that help them feel settled is what allows us to reassure someone who is anxious rather than correct them. For residents with sensory loss we adapt how we communicate and how rooms and shared spaces are arranged, so that nobody is quietly left out of a conversation or an activity. We do not yet hold an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission. We are regulated by them and are building the care planning, records and oversight that a good inspection outcome requires.
