About Grandsmere Place
We are a residential care home in Halifax supporting adults with a learning disability or autism. We also offer respite stays where a short break is what is needed rather than a permanent move. Our job is to run a house where people live their own lives with support, rather than a place that organises their lives for them. In practice that means paying attention to how each person communicates, what they need from their surroundings, what turns a manageable day into a difficult one and what helps when that happens. It means handling change carefully too. Notice, explanation and a week that keeps its shape are not extras here, they are what make the difference between coping and struggling. Where somebody can do something for themselves, even slowly, we would far rather they did. Doing everything for people because it is quicker takes away something that is hard to give back. We work closely with families and with the professionals involved. Families usually understand a person better than any assessment does, and we would rather ask than assume we already know. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are a family member or a professional considering a placement or a short break, please get in touch and we will talk it through openly with you, including telling you if we think somewhere else would suit a person better.
