About Kent House
Kent House is a residential care home in Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire. We support older people and younger adults, including people with physical disabilities, and we offer respite stays for people needing care for a short period. Coming to live in a care home is a significant thing to do, and the first weeks matter more than any account of the building. We spend them learning about the person rather than settling them into our routine. What they did for a living, what they cannot be doing with, what time they have always had their breakfast, whether they would rather be in company or left in peace with the radio on. Where a physical disability affects how somebody gets about, we design around the person rather than expecting them to accommodate the building, and we are careful that helping with one task does not quietly turn into doing everything. Independence handed away for the sake of speed is very hard to recover. The rest of the day belongs to the people living it. Getting up when you choose, visitors when it suits you, keeping up with family, friends and whatever you have always done. We take the practical side seriously too, with food worth eating, medication handled carefully and prompt attention when somebody is unwell. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall, and we keep asking residents and relatives what needs to change.
