About Elderthorpe Residential Home
Elderthorpe is a residential home in Shipley. We are home to older people, both for the long term and for shorter respite stays when a family carer needs a rest. We try to be dependable about ordinary comfort: warmth, food, clean clothes, help when wanted, and quiet when that is preferred. Somebody's likes and dislikes are recorded and acted on. If a resident tells us something twice and nothing changes, we have failed at the easy part of the job. Respite guests are properly welcomed rather than merely accommodated. We ask beforehand how the person likes things done, because a short stay gives us no time to learn it gradually. Shipley suits a good number of our residents because they have lived here most of their lives. Knowing the streets, the shops and the chapels means conversation has somewhere to go, and we would rather talk about that than about care. We are careful about the things that get overlooked in residential homes: glasses that are clean, hearing aids that work, laundry that comes back with the right name in it. Small failures there do more damage than people expect. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. Families are welcome to arrive unannounced.
