About Glen Rosa & Kitwood House
Glen Rosa and Kitwood House is a residential care home in Ilkley. We care for older people who need daily support, including those living with dementia, and we offer respite stays as a planned break for a family carer or while somebody recovers after illness. We are a residential home, and the aim is that it feels domestic rather than institutional. Residents bring their own furniture and pictures where there is room, choose when to get up and how the day goes, and eat food cooked here at hours that suit them. Our staff help with washing, dressing, mobility, medication and meals without hurrying anybody, and there are staff on hand through the night. When health needs come up we work with the local general practice, district nurses and therapists so that things are dealt with quickly and, wherever we can manage it, without anybody leaving the home. Dementia care rests on familiarity, patience and knowing the person. We hold routines steady, keep photographs and familiar objects within reach and follow somebody's own version of the day rather than arguing with it. Families tell us about the life a person has led, and that becomes some of the most useful information we hold. Ilkley and the moors above it feature in a lot of people's memories and, where health allows, in their weeks.
