About Howard Goble House
Howard Goble House in Sidcup is a residential home supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, alongside older people. Most of the people here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays. Because people tend to live here for years, we run the house as their household rather than as a setting they have been placed in. The people who live here decide how their rooms look, have a real say in what is bought and cooked, and shape the week around what they want to do. Support with personal care, medication, health appointments, money and getting about is given exactly as each person has agreed and recorded in detail so that every member of staff does it the same way. We should be open about where we stand. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us requires improvement overall. We did not dispute the findings. Since then we have strengthened staffing and supervision, tightened our systems for medicines and record keeping, and increased how closely senior staff check the support actually being given rather than the support described on paper. That work continues and we are not going to claim it is finished. We would far rather raise this ourselves and answer questions honestly than leave a family to discover it later. Communication remains at the centre of the work here, and anyone who wants to know how we would support a particular person is welcome to ask.
