About Jack Gardner House
Jack Gardner House is a residential care home in Barnet, London, supporting adults who are managing mental health conditions, most of them younger adults. Our aim is a calm, settled household where people are treated as adults. Residents keep their own routines and belongings, have privacy when they want it and company when they would rather have that instead, and make their own decisions about how the day goes. Staff are here to support rather than to supervise, and we are careful about the difference between the two. Recovery and stability are rarely straight lines. We plan for the harder periods as well as the settled ones, so that support is already in place when it is needed rather than arranged in a rush. A difficult spell is not treated as a failure, and nobody has to earn their place here by being well. We work closely with community mental health teams, GPs and social workers, and we involve families where the person wants them involved. Where somebody is working towards more independence, we build the support around that rather than settling into a routine that quietly does everything for them. Respite stays are also available, giving families a planned break while their relative stays somewhere properly supported. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch if you would like to come and see the house.
