About The Lighthouse
The Lighthouse is a nursing home in Newcastle upon Tyne. We provide nursing care for adults, mainly younger adults, who are managing a mental health condition, and we offer respite stays alongside longer placements. Combining nursing with mental health support is particular work. Physical health is too often neglected for people with long standing mental health needs, so we keep a close eye on it, while remembering that the person is not a diagnosis and is entitled to a life with things in it worth getting up for. Most of the people who come to us know a great deal about their own condition. They have managed it for years and have usually been told what to do by a long succession of professionals. So we begin from what the person tells us helps, and we do not treat a difficult stretch as a reason to reconsider whether they should be here. For people who have had a lot of upheaval, consistency is what earns trust and very little else does. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and have not yet been given an overall rating. We say that plainly. If you are considering a placement here, please come and visit and ask whatever you need to.
