About No 19 Respite House
No 19 Respite House in Plymouth provides short respite stays for adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with loss of sight or hearing, and people living with mental health conditions. Most of the people who come to us are younger adults. Respite is its own kind of work. Somebody arriving for a few days is not moving in, and the job is to make a temporary stay feel settled rather than unsettling. We find out beforehand how a person likes their day to run, what helps when they are anxious, and how they prefer to communicate, and we follow that rather than expecting them to fit round us. For families, a break only counts as a break if they are not worrying the whole time, so we keep in touch as much or as little as they want. We should be open about our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission, which is requires improvement. We know the areas identified and there is a plan of work in hand covering training and supervision, record keeping and how we involve families. Please ask us about it directly. Please contact us if you would like to visit.
